Can this car get in?
- • Who can import: Individuals and companies may import; customs is handled by the Indirect Taxation Authority (UINO), and the car must pass single-vehicle homologation before registration
- • Used cars need at least Euro 5 and new cars Euro 6 (Ministry of Transport and Communications decision from 1 June 2019); a September 2026 draft vehicle-registration rulebook would raise used cars to Euro 6, out for consultation in October, not adopted; whether RHD cars can be registered was not confirmed on an official page (estimate)
- • China-built petrol cars pay 15% duty (EU origin 0% with EUR.1); the normal BEV rate is 5%; Council of Ministers Decision 54/26 (Official Gazette 22/26) cuts newly built BEVs to 0% and new hybrids to 5% (normally 15%) until 31 December 2026, with a Foreign Trade Chamber certificate at entry; used BEVs pay 5%
- • VAT 17% on CIF + duty (VAT Law Art. 21); no excise on passenger cars (the Indirect Taxation Authority excise list does not include cars)
