This estimate includes import VAT in full. A VAT number does not automatically make vehicle VAT deductible: eligibility and the deductible share depend on the importing country, vehicle use, type and price. Business buyers should subtract only the VAT they have confirmed is recoverable when assessing net cost. Eligible businesses in Portugal and some other countries may account for import VAT on the return instead of paying at customs; this is not an exemption and does not itself grant a deduction.

Rules and sources

EU duty 10% + VAT 27%, plus two power-and-class based charges: the registration tax of HUF 47,000 × a multiplier (BEV classes 5E/5Z pay 0; a 1.5T petrol at 100–120 kW pays about HUF 70,500–94,000) and the vehicle acquisition duty (BEVs exempt; a 0–3-year-old 110 kW petrol pays 110 × HUF 850 ≈ HUF 93,500), together roughly EUR 400–500 for a petrol car. New China-built BEVs and range-extender cars carry the EU countervailing duty: 35.3% unless a listed manufacturer issues the invoice with the required declaration; used cars (registered over 6 months and driven over 6,000 km) are outside it. Hungary is landlocked: cars arrive via Koper or Rijeka and continue by road. China-spec cars without an EU CoC need single-vehicle approval (cost estimated).
