Rules and sources

EU duty 10% + VAT 25%, plus the Danish registration tax: progressive on the Danish VAT-inclusive assessed value (25% of the first DKK 76,400, 85% up to 237,400, 150% above) plus a CO2 charge, minus a DKK 25,500 basic deduction; in 2026 a BEV pays only 40% of the ordinary tax minus DKK 161,300, so a EUR 30,000 BEV (assessed approx. DKK 290,000) pays 0 and tax only starts above an assessed value of about DKK 419,000; the deduction falls from 2027 (estimate). A petrol car of the same value (WLTP 140 g) would pay about DKK 262,000 (approx. USD 39,000). New China-built BEVs and range-extender cars carry the EU countervailing duty: 35.3% unless a listed manufacturer issues the invoice with the required declaration; used cars (registered over 6 months and driven over 6,000 km) are outside it. China-spec cars without an EU CoC need single-vehicle approval (cost estimated). Plates DKK 1,180, import inspection approx. DKK 1,000; sea freight usually transships via Hamburg / Bremerhaven to Aarhus / Copenhagen.
