Who can import and what gets in
- • Who can import: Individuals and companies may import; customs values cars on minimum reference prices
- • For 2025–2026 new battery-electric cars are taxed on half their customs value (effective duty about 15%) and are exempt from excise
- • Excise: none up to 12 years old, 12.5% for 12–20 years, 25% above 20 years
- • Used cars are taxed on customs minimum reference values (Argus douanier / COSMOS)

Main port of entry is Douala. Passenger cars incur a 30% baseline tariff and a 19.25% comprehensive VAT, totaling over 55% of CIF. EVs enjoy a 50% customs value reduction and excise exemption. Be aware that customs strictly uses the COSMOS valuation system and vehicles older than 12 years face high excise penalties.
