Tax rules and sources

Outside the EU customs union, so the EU's 17–35% countervailing duty on Chinese EVs does not apply; Chinese-origin cars are duty-free. Excise follows CO₂: BEVs exempt, PHEV / range-extender default to 40 g/km (about 8.5%), petrol defaults to 150 g/km (about 46%, maximum 70%); VAT 24%. For a BEV, Iceland is one of the lowest-taxed destinations in Europe; petrol cars rarely make sense. Sea freight usually transships via Rotterdam, so it is on the high side.
